USA, Washington

Washington is the only state to be named after a president, President George Washington that is. Washington is north of Oregon, west of Idaho, and right on top of it is Canada’s British Columbia.

On this day November 11th, in 1889, Washington becomes the 42nd state of the United States. The state has a population of around 6.8 million. Its economy is supported by many technology firms such as Microsoft, and Boeing. Agriculture also plays a large role.

Washington’s capital is Seattle. Seattle gets a lot of flak for being depressing due to the overcast skies there, but it seems to have helped foster some incredible music. Jimi Hendrix was born there, and Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and the Melvins all came from the city. Seattle’s metropolitan area has 3.4 million people. There is also the myth that Seattle-ites buy more sunglasses than other people because whenever it’s sunny people don’t remember where they put their glasses; thus, they are forced to buy a new pair of sunglasses every time.
